Dub. Movie

DUB STATEMENT
Dub is in the first place an encounter with Bosnia and Herzegovina and its inhabitants. The movie gets its essence from this shared moments.Very different stories, based upon the same trauma. This is what this film gets to tell through the life of a group of friends.

Dub takes place in Sarajevo, as it is nowadays, where everyone has his own prospects, but a deep bond to the city. This movie is the account of this.

The Dub as a musical genre takes a very important place, for it's through its intermediary that the characters exorcize their day to day doubts.

DIFFERENT TUNES OF THE FILM
- Dub came from reggae and the history is telling us that it was invented accidentally by some sound engineer called King Tubby. As he was mixing a song, by mistake he elevated volume of the rhythm section, bass and drums, and he reduced the volume of the voice by the effect of reverberation. Those kind of remixes, called dubplates, were used more and more during the sound systems organized in the open air in Kingston Street. Thanks to a great power of sound equipment, the vibrations of bass were creating by audience greater feelings than to simply listen to the music.
Today, the Dub has become its own music.

-"Dub" is referring to the Volken Schlöndorffs movie "Die Blechtrommel" (Limeni dobos). Ahmed is like a little Cesar to whom they took his instrument. Having nothing but his drumsticks, standing on the roof of the building he wishes to break all the windows of the city.

- The work of interpret consists on translating the facts in impartial way. But this profession strikes a special chord in Sanjas case. For her it is a kind of "dubbing" that concerns her life story and her place in society.

- The portraits of the two characters are painted through their gatherings with friends, who all know each other, as we will see. At the sound system they will all meet. In this group of young people, Ahmed is representing some sort of the bass and Sanja the drums.
